Ad Council Goes Social
Posted on December 14th, 2007 No comments
To reach troubled high school students, the AdCouncil and the US Army are utilizing online social networks. Boostup.org enables parents and friends to send “boosts” to high school students who may be considering dropping out of school. Whether it’s via facebook, myspace or text messages, the campaign aims to show teenagers that people care about them and their future.
According to boostup.org, four out of ten students do not graduate from high school. That is a scary number. With the new website and with video public service announcements, hopefully, serious strides can be made to keep kids in school. The great thing about this campaign is that it speaks to student on their level, in their language. With encouragement coming through text messages and facebook, students will potentially feel less attacked and more appreciated.
It’s good to see nonprofit organizations utilizing cutting edge technologies to better connect with their target audiences. Both the US Army and the AdCouncil continue to maintain their inspirational presence in the media, and after this campaign, people should expect to see an new interactive approach to making a difference.
