America gets Rickrolled by puppets?
Posted on December 1st, 2008 No commentsRickrolling is an internet driven term that has been around since mid-2007, however it did not gain major notoriety until April Fools Day 2008. On this day sites such as YouTube changes their homepages and offered many miss labeled links that resulted in the viewing of Rick Astley’s Video of “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
Apparently Rickrolling (or being Rickrolled) has not lost momentum yet. 16 million viewers were Rickrolled during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade last Thursday. Google trends shows a huge spike in searches for “Rickrolling” and “Rickrolled” since the parade inclusion. This is likely due to a large percentage of those viewers not knowing about this internet prank. The parade exposed them to it for the first time and caused another surge in Rick Astley’s renewed fame. I would imagine that Rick Astley will continue to “roll” with this fame until some lovable internet geeks come up with the next viewing prank.
