Is Social Media for Social Good Possible? YES!
Posted on January 7th, 2009 No commentsSocial Media guru David Armano is proving that “online community” can have the same generosity and family-like togetherness that traditional communities have always had. David and his wife had taken in a woman named Daniela and her 3 small children. Daniela had decided after many years of abuse to divorce her husband. She was left with virtually nothing and made very little cleaning houses. David decided to see if he could get his various online communities to help Daniela and her family get enough money to get a one bedroom apartment. His goal was to raise $5,000 for her in hopes to help for a few months. David took to his blog, twitter, and other social outlets to ask for help. Help is exactly what he got. Through donations to a paypal account David has raised over $13,000 in about 24hrs for Daniela and her kids.
At a time when so many people are struggling financially it is heart-warming and amazing to see so many people band together to help a stranger who is in a rough situation. For all the times that people amaze you for the awful things that they can be capable of, there are events like this that remind you of how many truly wonderful people there are out there. Congratulations to David for his success, but mostly congratulations to Daniela. Lets hope that this is just the beginning to wonderful things for you and your children.
