  • Pandora Monthly Caps. Are you at Risk?

Posted on July 13th, 2009 Leslie Hammann 2 comments

    I sure am.

Last week, I received an email from the president of Pandora that explained the implications of their new royalty agreements. This email was thoughtful, proactive and a shining example of how corporations can communicate with their consumers.

That being said, I am still extremely sad that I need to monitor my radio consumption. Pandora has rescued me from countless co-worker distractions, writers blocks and foul moods in general. I completely understand that Pandora needs to make money, and that advertising can only be so frequent before users revolt. I get that.

The stipulations of the email sent to other at-risk Pandora listeners were completely fair. A minuscule yearly subscription fee or 99 cents per day that goes over the new monthly 40 hour cap. This fee is completely fair considering it’s what we pay per song everywhere else.

Out of love and devotion to my music lifeline, I dedicate the rest of this blog to the top 10 reasons why I listen to Pandora:

    1. It saves me from copying my iTunes library to my work computer.

    2. I get to hear new songs that I usually love.

    3. I get to hear old song that I forgot about.

    4. It’s free!!! Or fairly free.

    5. I get background information about songs and artists without too much hassle.

    6. I learn why I like certain music…apparently I am a big fan of major key tonality and classic rock song structures.

    7. I get to test out music before I buy it–and not just a snippet–the whole song.

    8. My stations are accessible no matter where I am.

    9. I get amazing stations from friends.

    10. I am in control of my own music destiny.

    • Hello,

I came across your post while searching Google. Pandora is a great service, but there is a better free alternative called Nexus Radio: http://www.nexusradio.com

I use to be a Pandora user until I found out about Nexus Radio, once I tried Nexus Radio I haven’t looked back since.

      Mike

    • It’s 99c for the rest of the month when you hit the cap.
